Use of 404 Error Pages on your site

If you are unfamiliar with the 404 Error message, try doing a net search … or click here.

“404 Error Page”,”examples”

Chances are that you are quite familiar with the 404 Error message. This happens when you click on a bad link or are directed to a specific URL and that page has been deleted from the host server. Sometimes, if there is no 404 error page, your browser will just hang up a bit, and then you will see a familiar page … perhaps something like this one (click to enlarge):

What is the “IN MY HUMBLE OPINION” Category anyway?

One acquaintance of mine recently looked at this blog. It was the day I posted the blog entry entitled Illusions - Part 1 on July 24, 2005. I asked what he thought of my blog, and to paraphrase him, this is what it sounded like to me …

Oh. Yes. I uh, Yes. I looked at Your Blog. Nice. It was. Interesting. Yes. That thing was freaky. No! Good. It was good. Nice Yes. Neat it was. Uh-huh. Sure. Yes. um. Ok Then. You Know.. um. I thought you said it was an accounting blog?

A “Fax Cover Sheet” For The Taking

This is basically the design of my own fax cover sheet. Let’s face it .. you need a good fax cover sheet … so, why not use mine?

I keep a folder filled with a bunch printed off of my Laser printer, in black and white, and a bunch printed off of my Deskjet printer, in color. I often send faxes to clients who also have all-in-one color printers doubling as their fax machine. Even if they don’t, I always staple the fax cover page to its documents, with a printed acknowledgement generated by my fax machine, and either place it in my current file - or into my correspondence file.

Another benefit, for me, in using this template fax cover page .. is that it matches all of my other templates in design.

Mobile/PDA version added to 1-800-HART

I have added a MOBILE plug-in to this blog, that should allow you to view it on your PDA or Mobile phone. This is the URL that you would have to use to read the 1-800-HART blog on your device:

http://www.1800HART.com/blog/wp-mobile.php

I personally do not use a mobile PDA or blackberry unit (although I am thinking of purchasing the #7290 version), and I would be grateful if any one of my readers who can access this blog with the above URL to report back to this entry and let me know if it works okay or not …

    Retirement Compensation Arrangements

    Retirement Compensation Arrangements
by Peter Merrick FMA, CFP, FCSI

Over the past three decades businesses operating in Canada have found it difficult to provide a worthwhile retirement plan for their top people. A Retirement Compensation Arrangement (RCA) is the Income Tax Act’s retirement planning solution for affluent professionals, business owners and corporate executives.

An RCA enables you to supplement your pensions and registered retirement savings plans, while increasing your financial and retirement security.

Individual Pension Plans - Upgrade Yourself

Individual Pension Plans - Upgrade Yourself
by Peter Merrick FMA, CFP, FCSI

Incorporated businesses looking to add a benefit for their owners and top executives might want to consider a little known tax-avoidance structure called the individual pension plan. IPPs are a wealthy person’s answer to registered retirement savings plans. They are sanctioned by the Canada Revenue Agency and offer the best tax and retirement savings solution for individuals 40 years old and older who have a T4 income of more than $100,000 and have historically maximized their RRSPs and pension contributions.

The existing RRSP legislation was created in 1957, at which time inflation and indexing were not taken into account. As a result, RRSP contribution limits are woefully inadequate for high-income earners. In 1991, the federal government remedied the situation by enacting the IPP legislation (in the Income Tax Act of Canada, subsection 147.1) to compensate high-income earners disadvantaged by RRSP rules.
