The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, toured Cabinetmaster Architectural Woodwork Ltd. today in Charlottetown to highlight the Government’s efforts to create an Entrepreneurial Advantage for Canadian small businesses.
“Small and medium-sized businesses and entrepreneurs are the motors of our modern economy—they work hard, they create jobs and they make our country work,” said Minister Flaherty. “Cabinetmaster is one of the more than 2 million such businesses in Canada today. It’s a local success story that is truly an inspiration.”

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today introduced a bill in the House of Commons to implement tax measures proposed in Budget 2007 and detailed in the Notice of Ways and Means Motion tabled on March 27, 2007.
“The legislation tabled today will implement important measures in Budget 2007 and help us realize the vision set out in Advantage Canada, the long-term economic plan of Canada’s New Government,” said Minister Flaherty. “It contains much-needed tax relief for families and businesses and will help to create the economic advantages the country needs to be stronger and more internationally competitive.”

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today visited a new ethanol plant in Varennes, Quebec, underscoring support in Budget 2007 for producers of renewable alternatives to gasoline.
“This is an historic period for the renewable fuels industry,” said Minister Flaherty. “The world is waking to the tremendous possibilities before us, and we have an opportunity to change the landscape dramatically and drive smarter and cleaner. Canada’s New Government is taking results-oriented steps to protect the environment and promote the well-being of farmers and our national economy.”

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today tabled a Notice of Ways and Means Motion in the House of Commons to implement certain tax relief measures proposed last week in Budget 2007 and in the months before the budget.
“Canadians pay too much tax,” said Minister Flaherty. “Budget 2007 builds on the significant tax relief in our first budget to help Canadian families and businesses get ahead and stay ahead. We are reducing taxes by more than $40 billion over this and the next two fiscal years and we will continue to look at new ways to ease the tax burden of hard-working Canadians.”

For fiscal periods ending before 2007, the CRA will extend the exemption policy for filing a T5013 Partnership Information Return, for partnerships that have five members or fewer, where throughout the fiscal period of the partnership, any of the members are corporations or trusts.
For fiscal periods ending after 2006, a partnership that has a corporation or trust as a member at any time throughout the fiscal period of the partnership, will be required to file a T5013 Partnership Information Return. Partnerships that have five members or fewer, where all of the members are individuals (excluding trusts), will remain exempt

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is warning Canadians to properly indicate their province or territory of residence on their tax returns. The CRA catches and fines people who attempt to evade taxes by filing a tax return claiming to live in one province but who actually reside in another.
It’s the law.

Authorizing a representative online gives your representative instant, secure access to the information needed to help complete your income tax and benefit return and to complete certain transactions on your behalf. You can authorize a representative online 21 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also change or revoke your representative’s authorization at any time.
All you have to do is log in to the My Account service, select Authorize my representative, and complete the four easy steps.
