Time To Take Out The Trash

It was December 2, 2007 since I’ve emptied the “trash” folder in my Eudora program. I remember vividly, because I blogged about it to remind me!

Since then - 148 days later .. it would seem that I have averaged 129,199/148 =~ 873 spam trashy emails per day. That’s interesting to me, because everytime I check to see how many emails I received in any given day it is well over 1,100 count. That would seem to me that my filter is routing a lot of other garbage all over the place, or I ignore or there really is about 200 emails per day of sitemeter statistics, wordpress messages, spam karma 2 messages, moderation notices and comment tracking. I think I really deal with 50-100 emails a day that I see that requires my attention or a reply back.

Earth Hour - March 29, 2008 - 8pm (YOUR Local Time)

On Saturday, March 29 at 8pm millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour - symbolizing the need to take action on climate change. Join the Earth Hour movement by turning off lights between 8:00 – 9:00 pm on March 29, 2008. Climate change is the biggest environmental threat to our planet and the number one concern for Canadians. Participating in Earth Hour is a simple way to take stand in the cause for a better, greener earth.

Personally, I don’t think 1-hour on a Saturday Night once a year is going to make ANY difference at all, and I will NOT Be turning off my electricity during this time. However, I am always for having a greener earth and saving the environment, and recycling, and all of that .. and always personally trying to reduce power consumption if I can. And, not only because there’s a motivation to reducing my Hydro bill each month … It just takes two seconds to turn off a computer each night. And, for the 10 minutes it takes to reboot .. I just go make a fresh pot of coffee in the morning!

Winning doesn’t cost you!

The following is now available on the CRA Web site:

News Release:

Ottawa, Ontario, March 19, 2008… In keeping with the spirit of Fraud Prevention Month, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is reminding the public that winners of sweepstakes and lotteries in Canada do not have to pay fees and taxes in order to claim their prizes.

The CRA has issued warnings in the past about scams in which individuals are informed they have won a large sum of money in a lottery or sweepstakes, usually from a foreign country. The individual is usually contacted by a legitimate-sounding financial institution claiming that it has a bank draft from a foreign sweepstakes company that is payable to him or her. The individual is told that, in order to receive the prize, they must first pay part of the taxes allegedly owed on the prize amount.
