Canada’s New Government Receives Recommendations on Savings Measures to Help Children With Severe Disabilities

The following News Release or Speech has just been posted on the Finance Canada Site.

Ottawa, December 12, 2006
2006-079

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today received recommendations from an expert panel appointed last summer to examine ways to help parents save for the long-term financial security of a child with a severe disability.

“On behalf of Canada’s New Government, I wish to thank the panel for taking the time away from family and work to assist us on addressing this important issue,” said Minister Flaherty. “Government must better enable parents to set aside funds today to financially support a child with a severe disability, when they are no longer able to provide support. I look forward to reviewing the panel’s advice on how this objective could be achieved.”

Welcome Back to 1-800-HART’s Feed!

I have finally figured out why my RSS Feed has NOT been working since my upgrade from wordpress version 1.5.2 directly to wordpress 2.0.5

I was concerned of the problem being one created by me making such a vast jump in versions in wordpress that was the problem .. or the vast jump in the feedburner plugin or feedburner itself having problems.

It turns out that my old version of plugins included Denis de Bernardy’s “Related” series of plugins that you see at the end of each post (Related Searches, Related Entries, and Related Tags) did not include the additional plugin “Related Entries For Feeds” .. and I activated all four of them - instead of just the three that I had before.

UPGRADE IS COMPLETE: I have now upgraded this blog from Wordpress version 1.5.2 directly to Wordpress version 2.0.5

Update is now complete ..

I have followed my previous instructions, converting from 1.5.2. directly to 2.0.4 .. and it worked converting it directly to the latest version 2.0.5.

There was one casualty - that I overlooked.

My DEMOCRACY plugin, which was for the poll question in the sidebar - got trashed. I believe it was because it was the old version 1.2 upgraded to the latest version 2.0.1 .. I’m not bitter though, although I wish I could have taken a snapshot picture of the results to date because .. it’s lost forever now.

It was a question asking what type of accounting software people were using out there in business, SOHO, and the real world. Unfortunately, I discount its results because it was there almost 11 months and I only received something like 70 votes. But .. I appreciate all the input from voters in the past and perhaps I will resurrect a similar poll in 2007!

Other than that? Everything looks like it is working perfectly - however, if you notice anything unusual or funny looking with this blog .. please leave a comment or let me know by email …. hart (at) 1800HART (dot) com …

Take care!

Sort of like .. that Pay It Forward movie?

Nothing wrong with this concept commercial - In fact, I liked it.

My “To Do” List Software Crashed …

I’m so sad.

I’ve been using a “To Do” software program for almost a decade… That’s right .. a decade!

Well, almost a decade .. on the anniversary of the 9th year, it died on me. Go Figure (a decade sounded better, but it was 8 full years, plus Day 1 of the 9th year actually)

The error message says something like this .. More →

You do not have to pay taxes or fees to the CRA on lottery or sweepstakes winnings!

Taxpayer Alert - You do not have to pay taxes or fees to the CRA on lottery or sweepstakes winnings!

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is warning the public to beware of an email scam in which individuals are informed that they have won a large sum of money in a lottery or sweepstakes, usually from a foreign country.

There are many versions of the scam, but the general concept remains the same: The victim receives an unsolicited email or regular mail from a legitimate-sounding financial institution claiming it has a bank draft from a foreign sweepstakes company that is payable to him or her. The email states that, to receive the prize, the addressee must first pay part of the taxes allegedly owed on the prize amount.

Waiting For A Courier To Arrive

Today is one of those days …

I’m expecting a courier delivery from a client today. It’s a box of my client’s Year-End records that I need and will be working on this weekend. I was asked Wednesday afternoon what day would be a good day to send the box, so I will be at home to receive it. I suggested Friday as I had no plans for the day, but just in case - call me before the courier is sent to be sure that I am home.

Well, this morning I had an early meeting with another client, and didn’t get back to ‘my office’ until shortly after 12:00pm Noon. Now, remember - that ‘my office’ is my home, because I work out of my house. There was a message on my call answer machine to let them know when they can send the courier. I immediately called my client, and let them know that I will be home for the rest of the day. They said they would immediately call the courier for pickup and delivery.
