The Evil Dead films are one of the most popular and influential films of all time. The films were directed by Sam Raimi, whose credits include the Darkman, The Quick And The Dead, A Simple Plan, and the recent Spider Man movies. The Evil Dead story begins in 1978 when Raimi and his buddies produced Within the Woods, a short horror film used to convince investors to invest money for the first film . Sam wrote the script and raised $1,600 with the help of Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert. Within the Woods featured cast & crew such as Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, and Scott Spiegal, who would later work on the Evil Dead films. In 1979, after raising nearly $90,000, Sam shot The Evil Dead with a cast and crew of 37 people. The main location was an abandoned cabin in the mountains near Morristown, Tennessee. The Evil Dead lived up to its billing as “The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Horror”: it featured beheadings, dismemberment and lots of squirting bodily fluids. The film opened to mediocre success in the US, but it was a huge hit in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Over the next few years, The Evil Dead became successful enough as a underground hit to warrant a sequel. In 1986 Raimi and his friends reunited to make Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. The film featured the return of Bruce Campbell as “Ash” and featured a fresh batch of victi–I mean, actors. Being a big fan of the Three Stooges, Sam threw in some slapstick along with the usual gore. The film became less scary than its predecessor, but more entertaining. In the film’s most famous scene, Ash’s hand is possessed by evil, and after it gives him a brutal beating he’s forced to saw it off with a chainsaw.
Six years later, Raimi and the Evil Dead crew decided to finish the trilogy with a third installment. Entitled Army of Darkness, the film picks up right where Evil Dead 2 left off, with Ash landing in a medieval kingdom. More a swashbuckling action comedy than a horror film, Army of Darkness is best known for Ash’s memorable lines such as “Hail to the king, baby,” and “Give me some sugar, baby.”
Currently there are no plans for an Evil Dead IV. Sam Raimi has said that he would like do to another installment, but has yet to confirm due to his obligations with the Spiderman movies. We’ll keep you posted!

Call it The Full Monty on ice. With tongue firmly in cheek, director-writer-star Paul Gross applies the old underdog sports-team formula to that great Northern obsession: curling. (You thought hockey was the national obsession? So did Canada.) You know the score: estranged teammates reunite to fulfill a dead man’s last request, win glory for their fictional hometown, and earn back their hibernating self-respect. Square-jawed Gross recalls his Due South days as the amiable team captain, a boy scout with an impish streak. Leslie Nielsen turns down the usual goofball shtick to play Gross’s crotchety, self-medicating father. There are enough issues here to fuel a dozen movies and none of them packs the punch of a pint of Molson’s beer, which is just the right tone for this off-center sports spoof, a story of little victories, big stones, and beavers on the move. –Sean Axmaker

Amazon.com essential video
Two of the all-time cartoon classics It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) and A Charlie Brown Christmas (a Peabody and Emmy winner from 1965) highlight this three-disc, six-episode set. Although the DVDs contain no extras (good grief!) and could have been combined on a single disc (drat!), the collection looks and sounds wonderful on DVD. The content is the same on the VHS and DVD sets, with two episodes per tape or disc. Accompanying Pumpkin is You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown, a cute spin on politics that has aged very well since its 1972 release. Christmas sports a lackluster sequel of sorts, It’s Christmas Time Again, Charlie Brown (1992) that has Sally dwelling on getting (instead of giving), Charlie Brown facing a spending dilemma, and everyone suffering stage fright before the annual school play. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973) also won an Emmy but is not as well known as others; it also suffers from not having the original cast. Snoopy is foremost in helping to put on an impromptu feast (toast and popcorn) as the gang keeps forgetting the true meaning of the holiday. Also on the disc is a better Thanksgiving venue, The Mayflower Voyages (1988), part of the This is America, Charlie Brown series that breathed new life into the franchise. Mostly narrated by Linus, the show traces the Pilgrims’ plight and doesn’t talk down to youngsters on the hardships they faced. It’s a treasure of a gift (for others or yourself), all nicely packaged. –Doug Thomas
Product Description:
Pumpkin Season is a Read-A-Long DVD Picture book for children of all ages. It is a wonderful story about what goes on in a pumpkin patch during the fall season. Our story revolves around a cute little pumpkin named Reggie. He can’t wait to go to the jack-o-lantern auditions and play pumpkin games at the seasonal patch parties. However, in pumpkin society you either qualify to become a jack-o-lantern, or you are kicked out of the patch and made into pie by the Bakerman!
The Bakerman never makes pies out of the official jack-o-lanterns, but he has a big pie order to fill and now all pumpkins are up for grabs, especially Reggie. Reggie’s courage and determination unites the pie pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns, and they all join together to defeat the Bakerman. The jack-o-lanterns finally realize that big or small, scary or not, they are all the same. And from now on all pumpkins will be Holiday jack-o-lanterns, thanks to Reggie.
Special Features Include: Your choice of male or female narrator (kids pick in the menu options). On-screen story text so children can read along. A picture gallery with a musical track featuring full screen images from the story, as well as bonus pictures not featured in the story. The illustrations are highly detailed and colorful 3D computer generated.
FINDING NEMO, directed by Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich, follows Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks), an overprotective clown fish father, as he desperately searches the sea for his missing son, Nemo (Alexander Gould). Marlin’s journey leads him beyond the Great Barrier Reef into deeper and darker waters, where he meets Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a forgetful yet optimistic blue tang, and a number of not-so-friendly–and often very hungry–aquatic creatures. Meanwhile, little Nemo finds himself in a dentist’s fish tank in Syndey, Australia, along with other underwater captives, including Gill (Willem Dafoe), the group’s scarred Moorish idol leader. As Nemo works with his new friends on a plan to escape their tank, Marlin and Dory swim closer, but they’ll need more than just fins to get into the dentist’s office.
This fifth computer-animated outing by Pixar continues the company’s remarkable winning streak that began with TOY STORY. Like other Pixar films, FINDING NEMO features a story with heart–this time, a father-and-son tale–and thoroughly charming leads–in this case, Marlin, Nemo, and Dory. And, of course, there’s an army of fascinating supporting characters, including Bruce (Barry Humphries), a great white shark on a no-fish diet; Crush (director/screenwriter Stanton), a surfer-dude sea turtle; Peach (Allison Janney), a stuck-to-the-aquarium starfish; and Nigel (Geoffrey Rush), a bold pelican. However, what truly distinguishes NEMO from even its CGI cousins is its stunning depiction of aquatic life, from the colorful creatures on a coral reef to a blue whale on the vast expanse of the open ocean. By combining the aesthetic of a National Geographic marine life documentary with clever jokes and Hitchcock references, NEMO succeeds in its bid to up the ante for animated films yet again. And be sure to watch the credits or you just might miss something!

Ever spend eight hours in a “Productivity Bin”? Ever had worries about layoffs? Ever had the urge to demolish a temperamental printer or fax machine? Ever had to endure a smarmy, condescending boss? Then Office Space should hit pretty close to home for you. Peter (Ron Livingston) spends the day doing stupefyingly dull computer work in a cubicle. He goes home to an apartment sparsely furnished by IKEA and Target, then starts for a maddening commute to work again in the morning. His coworkers in the cube farm are an annoying lot, his boss is a snide, patronizing jerk, and his days are consumed with tedium. In desperation, he turns to career hypnotherapy, but when his hypno-induced relaxation takes hold, there’s no shutting it off. Layoffs are in the air at his corporation, and with two coworkers (both of whom are slated for the chute) he devises a scheme to skim funds from company accounts. The scheme soon snowballs, however, throwing the three into a panic until the unexpected happens and saves the day. Director Mike Judge has come up with a spot-on look at work in corporate America circa 1999. With well-drawn characters and situations instantly familiar to the white-collar milieu, he captures the joylessness of many a cube denizen’s work life to a T. Jennifer Aniston plays Peter’s love interest, a waitress at Chotchkie’s, a generic beer-and-burger joint à la Chili’s, and Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show) has a minor but hilarious turn as Peter’s mustached, long-haired, drywall-installin’ neighbor. –Jerry Renshaw –This text refers to the VHS Tape edition.

Product Description
The Abbott & Costello Shows are a time capsule for some of the best performances in vaudeville comedy. The comedies have influenced many shows that came after them. Including Seinfeld. The comedy duo perform some of their best routines in these four episodes with a great supporting cast of Sid Fields, Hillary Bookes and Mike the Cop. Episodes from 1952-1953 include: Dentist Office, Alaska, Drug Store, and Vacation. The Colgate Comedy Hour was a comedy variety series that ran on NBC from 1950 to 1955. These four funny episodes on DVD include hosts Eddie Cantor, Abbott & Costello, with special guests Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher, Victor Borge, Allan Jones, Gisele MacKenzie, Grace Hartman, and Allan Jones.
