Booz-Barometer: Sobriety Test Of Champions

You know – this mechanical device is in my basement right now … I used to have an Amusement Device company with my older brother (pinballs, video games, arcade pieces, etc etc) and this is one of the few pieces that are remnant of that era.

For the BoozBarameter .. you place a quarter in the machine and try to navigate the ring from one side to the other side, without touching the metal. If you do ??? >> then you’re drunk!

I think I would sell this machine in a heart-beat .. if someone offered me something reasonable for it…… (nudge, nudge, say no more) … If you do a search on google, you might come up with a site like THIS ONE.. or THIS ONE .. Sometimes there are items on Ebay too ..

For avid nature lovers, boaters, or coastal dwellers, this wireless weather station–equipped with a remote wind sensor–is a direct line to sudden changes in weather. The station reports the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius, plus relative humidity for indoor and outdoor locations via a remote sensor. For more accurate outdoor readings, the base unit can receive information from up to three different sensors that can each be placed up to 80 feet away. The weather station records minimum and maximum temperature and humidity readings within a 24-hour period, and recalls them at your prompting. In addition, it has an indoor comfort level indicator that uses happy or sad face icons to let you know if the temperature is at a comfortable level. One of three forecast icons on the LCD displays weather predictions based on changing air pressure, and is about 75% accurate for any 12- to 20-hour time period. The device also shows the current moon phase (of 12 possible phases) and the dew point.

This unit also includes a wind sensor, powered by the wireless outdoor transmitter that sends data back to the weather station. The main display reports the current wind speed in miles per hour as well as via a bar graph in the Beaufort Scale. It records the maximum wind gust record in a 128-second time period. According to all the James Bond, Pink Panther, and other spy or “heist” movies, valuables are always guarded by glistening red beams. Cross a beam and a loud alarm sounds, which normally summons scores of security guards, ninjas, or robot henchmen. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was an inexpensive way to get this sort of security for your cubicle?

Luckily, we found the Lazer Trip Wire – a wonderful addition to low-cost personal property protection. It doesn’t use lasers (hence, Lazer), but rather infrared light beams. You get three Lazer units, one primary and two secondary (each with a sensitivity switch to compensate for different light conditions). Clamp the Lazer units anywhere, and just align each Sender (IR light) to each Receptor (light sensor). Use only two Lazer units, or set up a perimeter with three or more units (multiple sets can be combined for one major invisible protection system). When all the units are connected, a nice voice will announce “System Armed.” Break one beam, though, and an alarm will sound, alerting everyone to the security breach. Ninjas and robot henchman, sold separately.

Please keep in mind, this is a toy. It works really well, but you shouldn’t rely on it to protect your gold bars or top secret documents. Get a Ninja or a Wizard for that (also, sold separately).

The Neverlate 7-day Alarm clock is perfect for those of us who are, if you’ll pardon the pun, tired of oversleeping. As its name implies, it has seven alarms, one for each day of the week. The independent daily alarms make this clock a must for the dorm. You’ll be able to get the maximum sleep based on your class schedule. And the snooze button can give you anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes of extra sleep – your call. Also, there is a magic “nap” button, which is a gem for both dorm and office. One push and you can set a nap duration from 1 to 120 minutes – then just go to sleep, the clock does the rest.

Setting each daily alarm is as easy as oversleeping. Just turn the top inner knob to the day, and rotate the top outer wheel until the proper time is displayed. Advance the knob to the next day and repeat. Once all the alarms are set, you’re good to go. Get the notice that tomorrow’s class or early meeting has been cancelled? Not a problem – just turn off tomorrow’s alarm, and leave the rest of the week active. Each alarm is really that independent! But the Neverlate clock doesn’t stop there. It’s also a sweet little FM/AM radio (which, of course, you can set the alarm to turn on).
