Celtic Bird Scarf – Narrow

Monday 5 December 2005 @ 11:39 pm

The Celtic Bird Scarf is made of 100% rayon (first quality), measuring 14″ x 70″. The birds are twisted upon themselves, with tails, ears and body parts weaving in and out other parts, much like regular knotwork interlace. The scarf is available in royal purple only.

The Celtic Bird Knot represents freedom from physical earthbound restrictions. The bird was considered to seer, who comprehends all; bird was a symbol of reverence. In mythology, the bird is said to be a messenger from this world to the next. Birds play a prominent role in Celtic myth and legend. As symbols of freedom and transcendence, they represent the human soul in flight, liberated from earthly ties, able to soar in spiritual communication with the heavens. Returning to earth, they bring messages of prophecy and guidance, aiding mortals on their spiritual and earthly journeys. Birds are usually used to represent prophetic knowledge, bloodshed, and skill.

Leather Viking Helm

Thursday 24 November 2005 @ 7:01 pm

Leather Viking Helm is modeled after a piece excavated from 10th century ruins in Norway. The “spectacle” type face guard is historically more accurate than the wings or horns typically depicted as the “Viking” look. They’re lighter and more comfortable than steel, while still providing an authentic look and modest protection.

The Leather Viking Helm is made of very thick harness grade leather. The Viking Helm includes an adjustable liner. Leather helms are perfect for reenactors, LARP and even faire goers.

European Barbute - Medieval Helmet

Thursday 13 October 2005 @ 12:37 am

European Barbute, circa 1460 is a prime example of the true genius of early Italian helm smiths! The Barbute style helm provided visibility so crucially needed in battle while providing protection of the neck. This is a full size wearable reproduction skillfully handcrafted of 18 gauge steel. The European Barbute is a reproduction of a 14th century Barbute helmet. The helmet is both wearable, as well as excellent collectible piece.

The barbute is a conical, open-faced helmet, whose sides and back are extended down to protect the neck. The barbute is characterized by a rounded skull and a t-shaped opening for the face, which are sometimes expanded into a fully open face. The Barbute helmet is of style used in the mid 15th century. The barbuta, which is typically Italian in style, is known as an ‘Italian sallet’ in Germany and a ‘French sallet’ in France. The barbute, which originally came from Italy, was eventually worn all over Europe, though usually with the addition of a bevor, or, more often, a mail aventail. In the latter form it can be mistaken for a small bascinet without a visor, the difference being the barbute has cheek protection.

Druid Robe

Tuesday 20 September 2005 @ 3:59 am

Druid Robe

The Druid Robe is a classic pullover robed with closed front and a fabulous hood. The robe is generously cut and long to fit men and women, fits up to XXL. The Druid Robe is available in tough black cotton. Hand wash.

The term Druid refers to the priestly class in ancient Celtic societies which existed through much of Western Europe, north of the Alps and in the British Isles. The Druidic practice appears to be deeply traditional and conservative; the druids were conserving repositories of culture and wisdom. The historical knowledge of Druids is very limited. Of their oral literature of sacred songs, formulas for prayers, rules of divination and magic, not one verse has survived. Their influence was as much social as religious. Druids not only used to take the part that modern priests would, but they were often the philosophers, scientists, lore-masters, teachers, judges and counselors to the kings. In the lives of saints, martyrs and missionaries, the Druids are represented as magicians and diviners opposing Christian missionaries

17th Century Lady’s Dress

Saturday 17 September 2005 @ 3:40 am

The 17th Century Lady’s Dress is a classic Renaissance noble woman’s dress created in the Italian style.

For the lady of class, this dress is for times at court or other official functions. The 17th Century Lady’s Dress is burgundy and black floral dress with a black center front skirt panel adorned with lovely trim that is on the sleeves as well.

Women’s fashion during the 17th Century consisted of tight-waisted dresses with corsets and full skirts, sometimes made of silk and trimmed with lace. Men sometimes wore a casaque (cape). This type of cape was cut so that the front and back could be buttoned together to form a coat and the shoulder pieces could be buttoned together to form the sleeves.
