The barbute is characterized by a rounded skull and a t-shaped opening for the face, which are sometimes expanded into a fully open face. The Barbute helmet is of style used in the mid 15th century. The barbuta, which is typically Italian in style, is known as an ‘Italian sallet’ in Germany and a ‘French sallet’ in France.
